On September 28, the American Infrastructure Alliance launched as a new labor-business coalition focused on responsible data-center growth. PowerHouse Data Centers says the alliance is the first nationwide partnership between labor and business centered on that goal, and Axios described it as a multimillion-dollar effort aimed at shaping the 2027 state legislative fights over AI and data centers.

The coalition’s inaugural members, as listed by PowerHouse Data Centers, include OpenAI, Blackstone, QTS, SoftBank Group, IBEW, SMART, and the United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters, along with other labor and development groups. The alliance says it will focus on seven states — Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and South Carolina — and will advocate for locally grounded standards and guardrails for data-center development.

Union leaders quoted by the coalition say data-center development can create skilled, high-paying jobs and should benefit workers and communities. Axios added that the alliance is part of a larger political and legislative fight over AI and data centers.
